PATNA: An HIV-infected couple from Siwan will inaugurate the three-day 13th annual conference of the Indian Association of Clinical Medicine here at Hotel Maurya on Saturday. The scientific session would start on Friday evening.
The couple, Arun Singh and Seema Singh of village Satwar in Siwan district, hails from a middle class family, are established cases of Aids. "With their sheer grit and determination they are carrying on with their work and have also given birth to an HIV negative baby," said the organising secretary of the meet, Dr Ajay Kumar.
This bold initiative would help increase awareness among doctors and masses regarding this modern curse. This would be a giant step towards acceptance of HIV-infected individuals in the social mainstream and remove the stigma attached therein, Kumar added.
Around 300 clinicians of the country, including R Handa, S C Dash, Uma Kumar (all from AIIMS New Delhi) B K Sahay and G Narsimullu (Hyderabad), Sukumar Mukherjee, Dhiman Ganguly (Kolkata) are expected to participate in the scientific deliberations.
Various workshops, medi-quiz for PG students and presentation of real life cases would be organised during the conference. Diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancers along with newer afflictions like HIV/Aids have posed new challenges for practising clinicians.
