Sadanand's name in two voters' lists

BHAGALPUR: The state Congress chief and party nominee from Kahalgaon, Sadanand Singh, is once again in the news, for wrong reasons.

Following a complaint lodged by Singh's JD(U) rival Ajay Mandal that Singh's name is still present in the voter lists of two different polling stations of Kahalgaon, Bhagalpur district election officer Vipin Kumar has ordered a high-level probe.

According to JD(U), Singh's name is present in the voter list of Kahalgaon Choudhary Tola according to which his age is 61 years, house number is 60, the voter serial number is 432 and the father's name is Krishna Prasad Mandal. In another voter list of Singh's native village Dhuabey, his voter serial number 1087.

Singh's age, however, is 57 in his village voter list. "It violates Section 31 of the People's Representation Act, which says that furnishing wrong information or false information in the form 6 is a punishable offence," said state JD(U) executive member Vibhuti Goswami.

Meanwhile, the district election officer said a probe team, headed by an ADM-rank officer, would soon give its report. "If anything wrong is found, the culprit won't be spared," he said.

EC adviser K J Rao told TOI over phone on Thursday afternoon, "It's too late now. I have got the information, but now we would not remove Singh's name from the list of the candidates. He would have to face a trial in which he may land behind the bar".
