More than a thousand persons in Bihar are missing. These people were kidnapped over the past eight years and never found. DGP Ashish Ranjan Sinha gave this information to the Patna HC on Tuesday. The court asked Sinha to submit a list of influential people who were either patronising kidnappers or indirectly involved in kidnapping.
The DGP told the court there are 1,111 pending cases of kidnapping throughout the state. Of the victims, 171 are minors and 580 women. "This is shameful. Our conscience is shattered on coming to know that there are people who are in captivity for the past one decade," the court said, adding the DGP should do something about it.
The court ordered the DGP to provide more comprehensive information about the kidnapping cases under investigation and cases in which chargesheets are filed by November 10 to enable the court to issue necessary directions in this regard. It also directed the state police chief to provide information on the number of cases in which inter-state criminal gangs were involved.
