JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as Bihar's 23rd Chief Minister at the historic Gandhi Maidan along with a 13-member team of ministers on Thursday.
BJP state chief Sushil Kumar Modi will be his deputy. Nitish said his ministry would include eight members from the JD(U) and six from the BJP to begin with. He was elected the leader of the NDA legislature party on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Cabinet has recommended lifting of President's Rule in the state. The BJP Parliamentary Board in New Delhi has appointed two Central observers -- M Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley -- who were authorised to hold talks with party legislators and finalise names of its ministers.
A host of political leaders are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Among them will be BJP stalwarts AB Vajpayee and LK Advani; JD(U) president George Fernandes, Madhya Pradesh CM Babulal Gaur, Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik, senior Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal, Jharkhand CM Arjun Munda, former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Trinamool chief Mamta Bannerjee. PM's assurance Earlier on Wedesday, Nitish met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who offered him full cooperation for his government in the state. Though he described the meeting as a "courtesy call", Nitish Kumar told reporters that the Prime Minister had assured him of the centre's full cooperation for the state of Bihar-- a state sich in resource rich but underdeveloped. The Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine on Tuesday secured a landslide victory, winning 144 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly.
The installation of a popular Government on Thursday would mark the end of an eight-month spell of President's rule, which was imposed on March 7, 2005 following a fractured mandate in the 13th assembly polls.
