RANCHI/JAMSHEDPUR: A truck was set ablaze and police had to resort to lathicharge to control an unruly mob at Karandih under Parsudih police station in Jamshedpur, the bandh called by Adivasi Adhikar Morcha (AAM) in protest against the BJP-sponsored adivasi rally being held in Ranchi later in the day, evoked mixed response in the East and West Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharswan district so far.
Bandh supporters who took to the street since morning to enforce the bandh set the truck on fire near the block office in tribal-dominated Karandih.
Majority of shops and markets in tribal pockets of the three districts were closed while road traffic was also hampered, anticipating violence. Though bandh supporters did not come out on roads to enforce bandh in the capital, police were vigilant through out the day.
Most of the business establishments remained opened and attendance in government and private offices was almost normal. Even vehicular traffic was normal and people were seen moving on the roads like any other day.
