Passengers of Delhi-Guwahati Express today had a miraculous escape when children noticed some nuts and bolts removed from the tracks and raised an alarm forcing the driver to apply emergency brake at a railway crossing, close to the Samastipur railway station in Bihar, railway sources said.
Sources said as the train, on its way to Guwahati from New Delhi, chugged down near Thaneshwar Sthan Gumti, a few yards from Samastipur station on Hajipur-Samastipur section of the East Central Railway, some children stumbled on nuts and bolts removed from the railway line where repair work was on.
The alert children soon took out their red pullovers and raised an alarm forcing the driver to apply emergency brake.
"Since the train was running at a slow speed, a major tragedy was averted", they said.
The train resumed its onward journey after halting their for nearly an hour, sources said.
