PATNA: A three-day Inter-Railway cultural meet, organised by the East-Central Railway (ECR), began here at Bhartiya Nitya Kala Mandir on Thursday. It was inaugurated by ECR general manager J P Batra.
On the first day of the meet on Thursday, eight teams from different zones of the railway presented folk dances and songs. The first team was from Adra (South Eastern Railway), which performed folk dance "Namaskar"in which the participants offered prayers to "panch tatwa", the five elements comprising the universe.
The style of the dance was taken from the creative dance style of Pandit Uday Shankar's dance group. The costumes were very colourful which went very well with the theme of the dance.
Team of East-Coast Railway, Sambalpur, performed a tribal dance "Bajaniya Nirtya", a dance form which was usually performed by sisters, in front of the idol of Goddess Durga during Durga Puja in Orissa, for the welfare of their brothers.
North West Railway, Ajmer, which staged a dance "Pir Baba Ram Dev"and Diesel Locomotive Work, Varanasi, which performed "Hathkheli".
Around 300 participants from 14 zones of Indian Railways have come here to participate in the event and two more two team are likely to come on Friday.
