HC notice to Centre on city hospital
PATNA: The Patna High Court on Wednesday directed the Union of India to file within four weeks a counter-affidavit to the PIL which sought a directive to the Union health ministry to utilise Rs 49.44 crore for establishment of the 100-bed Samrat Ashok Hospital at Agamkuan in Patna.
A division bench comprising Justice Shashank Kumar Singh and Justice Shivkirti Singh issued the directive on the PIL of Bhumendra Narayan Singh, who alleged that the officials concerned of the Union health ministry have systematically diverted Rs 41.34 crore meant for construction of the first phase of the Samrat Ashok Hospital to some other hospital project in South India.
City mayor's plea: The Patna High Court on Wednesday partly heard Patna Municipal Corporation mayor Krishna Murari Yadav's petition which challenged the orders of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Patna for issuing the warrant of arrest against him and attaching his property to force his surrender in the case relating to the murder of Patna Water Board chairman Ashok Yadav. A single bench of Justice Mridula Mishra of the high court adjourned the hearing of the petition to Thursday after arguments had been made by the lawyers of the petitioner and the government.
Case cost: The Patna High Court on Wednesday directed the Bihar School Examination Board to give Rs 2,000 as the cost of contesting the case to its superannuated employee Suryakeshwar Prasad, who was not paid gratuity despite a high court order. A single bench of Justice S K Katriar passed an order to this effect on Wednesday while hearing the contempt of court petition of Prasad. The bench directed the Bihar School Examination Board to pay gratuity to the petitioner. Scam accused: The Patna High Court on Wednesday gave liberty to State Election Commissioner D P Maheshwari, a former secretary of the state road construction department who is an accused in the bitumen scam, to move the special judge for CBI cases for challenging the cognisance taken against him during the framing of charges against him in a bitumen scam case. The special judge for CBI cases is hearing bitumen scam cases. Making an observation to this effect, a single bench of Justice V N Sinha of the high court disposed of Maheshwari's petition which sought quashing of the cognisance taken against him by the special judge for CBI cases in the bitumen scam case on the ground that the sanction taken by the CBI for prosecuting him (Maheshwari) was not proper. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-1203766,curpg-2.cms
