Rao, who visited Nalanda during the day, held meetings with district officials there to assess the poll preparedness in the district. He is expected to review poll preparedness in other districts after holding discussions with district magistrates and regional commissioners there through video-conferencing from Patna on Tuesday.
In another poll-related development, state DGP Ashish Ranjan Sinha is reported to have submitted the status report on the execution of non-bailable warrants in Bihar. The EC, on its part, is understood to have sent Sinha's list to all SDOs-cum-REOs concerned with the directive to ensure that names of persons evading arrests were struck off the voters list.
During his trip to Nalanda, Rao and Bihar deputy chief electoral officer Deepak Prasad visited different areas of the district and took stock of the arrangements made by the district administration for the ensuing assembly polls.
The visit of the EC legal adviser to the Nalanda revealed that as against a total of 17.27 lakh electorates in the district, PICs have been issued to only 11.87 lakh voters so far. He, therefore, issued instructions to the district administration to ensure that PICs to the remaining 5.50 lakh voters in the district were issued well before time. "No voter will be allowed to exercise his franchise without PIC," he said. Rao also directed the administration to arrest all persons against whom the arrest warrants have already been issued.
