PATNA: Believe it or not, Patna district alone has as many as 3,500 criminal absconders against whom non-bailable warrants (NBWs) have been issued.
Disclosing this to the media here on Tuesday, adviser to the Election Commission (EC) KJ Rao said that he had a list with the names of all those against whom NBWs have been issued in the state. While refusing to divulge any "big name" included in the said list, Rao said although he had not gone through the list, the district magistrates of all districts also had copies of the same.
Making a surpise inspection at a booth in Patna Muslim School on B M Das Road where photo identity cards (PICs) were being issued, Rao reiterated the EC slogan "No photo-identity card-No vote!" He also revealed that there were over two lakh people in Patna district who had their names enrolled from more than two constituencies.
"A computer software will separate such names on the basis of his or her date of birth and father's name and such names will be deleted from the voting list," he said.
