PATNA: The Patna HC on Friday asked DGP Ashish Ranjan Sinha if police security is on sale for the people who face threats from criminals. The DGP, who was present in the court, had a tough time answering the questions asked by it.
The matter being heard was the PIL of the IMA's Bihar unit which demanded that the state government should provide doctors with a security cover against criminals, including kidnappers and extortionists. In their intervener petitions, 26 doctors having a perception of threat from criminals had challenged the state government's demand that it should be paid Rs 12,000 per month for providing a police bodyguard to each of them.
The association's letter-petition in this regard, which was later converted into the PIL by the high court, was filed following the killing of some doctors who had refused to pay extortion money demanded by hardened criminals lodged in jail.
