Having said that, he clarified that any adverse effect on the JD(U)-BJP tie-up for Bihar was unlikely. Shrivastawa then appealed to all ``anti-Laloo forces'' to join hands. ``We wish to make it clear that in Bihar, we joined hands with BJP only as a tactical necessity to get rid of Laloo's misrule. The compromise on Assembly seats should not be misunderstood as a compromise of our ideological positions.''
The Organiser, in an editorial, criticised Kumar for favouring reservation for Dalits who converted to Christianity and Islam. Shrivastawa said the JD(U) took this attack on Nitish ``very seriously''.
``The RSS is a socio-political organisation and should not make such statements,'' Shrivastawa said, adding that Nitish's views on reservation--which were in keeping with the party's position--had been espoused by Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa too. ``We do not expect the BJP to depart from its ideology and neither should they expect us to do so,'' Shrivastwa said.
He added: ``We will join hands with whomever necessary, to rid Bihar of Laloo's misrule.'' Asked if he was referring to Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP, he said, ``I don't want to name names, but whoever is truly anti-Laloo, should join us.''
Asked about reports of party leaders adopting different views on reservation for women in Parliament, he said, ``We feel the Gill formula (making parties mandatorily reserve 33 pc seats for women) is the most practical way.''
