"We Will Change the Face of Bihar", Says Nitish

Buxar: September 1, 2005

Janata Dal (U) leader and party's Chief Ministerial candidate Nitish Kumar, in Buxar where he arrived with his caravan on Wednesday, appealed to the people to get rid of caste and communal feelings and vow to create a new Bihar based on communal peace and developments.

Kumar, who is touring the state under the banner of 'Nyay Yatra', while addressing the crowd at Buxar's Qila Maidan on Wednesday evening, said that the development of the state was possible only under the NDA government since the Lalu Prasad Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had failed on all fronts during its 15 years of rule in Bihar.

"This campaign (Nyay Yatra) will not end with this election. It will go on for years even after the NDA comes into power," the JD-U leader said.

"Under the Lalu-Rabri misrule, Bihar has lost grounds on each and every front. Education is in pathetic state, crime is at record level, scams are the order of the day, the plight of the poor and dalits have worsened, and the conditions of roads, power and drinking water are the worst in the nation," Kumar said while exhorting the public to vote for the NDA and "rid Bihar from the 15 years of jungle raj."

"Give us one chance to prove our worth. We will turn Bihar into a state even better than Punjab and Haryana," he said.

Others who addressed the rally included the BJP leaders Sushil Kumar Modi; former Union Ministers Dr. C. P. Thakur, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Shahnawaz Hussain, Rajiv Pratap Rudy; BJP leader Ashwini Choubey, Monazir Hassan, Nand Kishore Yadav, JD-U leaders Lovely Anand, Upendra Kushwaha, Sukhda Pandey, Nagmani, Narendra Singh, former DGP R. R. Prasad, and many others.

"The difference between myself and Lalu Prasad Yadav is that I am asking for your votes so I could serve you better and put Bihar on the path of development while the Railway Minister is begging for your vote to seize power," Kumar said.
