Bihar police 'unable' to trace Shahabuddin

There may be a nationwide alert out on RJD MP Shahabuddin but the Bihar police haven't bothered to inform their state counterparts.

So the notorious Parliamentarian keeps popping up at various places across the country, openly flouting the law.

Shahabuddin has eight warrants against him and the entire country's police force ostensibly is out to arrest him.

But how serious is the search? Last Friday, Shahabuddin made his getaway from Delhi's 5 Bishambar Dass Marg residence minutes before the Bihar police barged in.

Since then the police haven't bothered to come here to ask any questions.

Lalu backing

The warrants were issued in different cases. In the last two months, they mainly related to illegal arms and even poaching.

But with Shahabuddin assured of the protection of Rail Minister Lalu Yadav, he attended the Monsoon Session of Parliament openly.

"How can they not let me enter Siwan on one hand and then say there are cases against me," asked Shahabuddin. And even today, he has got the backing of the Rail Minister.

So while Shahabuddin was photographed by a newspaper eating lavishly in a Colaba restaurant, two days in a row, and also gave phone interviews to NDTV, the police could never find him.

Opposition suspicious

They didn't even bother to speak to the Delhi police to seek their support. Something that has got the Opposition extremely suspicious.

"It is such a drama. If they wanted to do something they could have done it. Everyone knows exactly where he is," said V K Malhotra, BJP Spokesman.

According to experts, mobile technology could have been used to find the MP. Since he was using his cellphone, it could have been used to track his whereabouts.

This makes it clear that the Bihar police just wasn't and aren't trying hard enough.
