Streetwalkers on prowl at Patna Jn

DANAPUR: Railway platforms at the Patna Junction have turned into a virtual flesh trade centre these days. Call girls in the age group of 18-35 years openly solicit customers under the cover of darkness on the railway platforms.

Surprisingly, the Patna GRP are yet to initiate any step to check the immoral activities going on openly on the platforms of the Patna Junction as well as on the station premises.

Expressing serious concern over the issue, Danapur DRM K B L Mittal said that although it is the responsibility of the Patna GRP to check such activities, the railways, on their part, will take stern action against these sex workers.

The DRM said that the Patna Junction has become a model station of Indian Railways and these kinds of activities will only sully its image.

The railway staff on duty at Patna Junction hold policemen responsible for the recent spurt in flesh trade on the railway platforms or in the yard.

According to them, railway platforms start humming with the activities of these call girls as early as 9 pm every evening which continue till midnight.

Men in "khaki" are silent witness to such activities, they claimed. The flesh trade has become a real nuisance for women visiting railway platforms either to see off their relatives or board trains in the late hours of evening.

Women belonging to respectable families have to bear the agony of watching sex workers striking a deal with customers in full public view on railway platforms.

Interestingly, pimps, too, have become active on the railway premises and help customers in finding girls of their choice in return of a paltry sum as commission.

Sometimes, rivalry among sex workers and the resultant filthy verbal duel between them puts people in an awkward situation.

According to sources, about 20 women are currently operating as sex workers on the railway platforms.

Khadi-clad men are also allegedly involved in the immoral trafficking as they frequent Patna Junction during the late hours in the evening.
