PATNA: Everyone in Bihar runs the risk of contracting lymphatic filaria, warned health secretary Deepak Kumar at a workshop on vector-borne diseases organised here on Saturday by the state government.
National vector-borne diseases control programme is a part of the National Rural Health Mission which started in Bihar on July 14, 2005.
"Kala-azar has claimed 76 lives in Bihar till July this year and 12,554 people have fallen prey to it during the same period. Mortality caused due to kala-azar is proposed to be brought down by 100 per cent by 2010," said Kumar.
"Early diagnosis and prompt and complete treatment is essential for controlling kala-azar," said Dr Manoranjan Jha, a senior medical officer.
