Police in Bihar have registered cases against two Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders, Kashi Nath Prasad and Mukhtar Singh, in the state's Buxar district for violating the Election Commission of India's Model Code of Conduct by holding a meeting beyond the permissible time.
The district administration had permitted the party to hold a meeting of local RJD leaders with a deadline of 10 p.m., but the meeting went beyond the time.
The cases were registered on the orders of Dumraon sub-divisional officer V N Thakur.
A little after 10 p.m., Thakur asked K K Puri, the magistrate deployed at venue, to order the workers to switch off the loud speakers as the permitted time was over.
The loud speaker was switched off at 10.30 p.m. but the meeting kept going on.
"Lalu Prasad arrived at the venue at 11 p.m. and left after holding talks with local party workers," Thakur said.
