The students sustained splinter and burn injuries in their hand and feet and one of them, Azad Ali, had even his face hurt. Ali managed to escape while the other two students, Shehanshah and Shahnawaz, were first taken to a private nursing home and then to PMCH for treatment.
Doctors said a part of the hand of Shehanshah was blown up in the explosion. Both of them are out of danger. Shehanshah and Shahnawaz are BA (part II) students of Patna College. Shahnawaz is a resident of Jehanabad while Shehanshah belongs to Gopalganj district.
They said four more youths, all outsiders, were in the hostel room (number 14) when the bomb exploded, according to Patna University proctor Kirteshwar Prasad. Prasad along with Patna College principal P N Tiwari visited the injured students in the hospital.
In response to a query, Tiwari said this was the first incident of bomb manufacture and blast in any of the Patna College hostels. He said the explosion notwithstanding, the teaching work remained unaffected in the college on Friday.
