PTI Patna Sept 3: The Communist Party of India today rejected outright the Congress' proposal for a tie-up in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections and resolved to intensify efforts for formation of a third front in the state."We have rejected outright the Congress proposal for an electoral alliance and informed it that we are going to intensify our efforts for formation of a third front," the state CPI secretary, Mr Badri Narain Lal told PTI after half-an-hour meeting with the Congress general-secretary incharge of Bihar and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Mr Digvijay Singh and Bihar pradesh Congress committee chief, Mr Sadanand Singh.
Mr Lal said Mr Singh underscored the need for floating a broad secular front comprising constituents of the United Progressive Alliance and their Left allies to ensure that the secular votes were not split.
"We told him there was no question of any review of our decision of not going along with RJD. We also stressed the need for a third front to prevent both the NDA and RJD from coming to power," he said, adding the Congress leader was told that coming together of Left and secular parties on one platform would lead to a consolidation of voters in favour of the NDA which the CPI did not want.
