Lalu's 'tea party' begins

PATNA: RJD chief Lalu Prasad's eight-day interaction with district level party officials over a cup of tea started on Friday.

It was during the party's national convention which ended here recently that Lalu had announced he would invite the partymen for tea.

Party workers and office bearers from East Champaran and West Champaran met Lalu around 2.30 pm on the first day at 1, Anne Marg -- residence of Lalu's wife and former CM Rabri Devi.

Mediapersons were not allowed in. RJD sources said Lalu is trying to appease the party workers and leaders before going to polls.

In the last assembly elections, Lalu kept himself away from party workers, prompting criticism that he was surrounded by a coterie. "We want to remove this notion," said a senior RJD leader.
