In a major countrywide anti-corruption drive, CBI today (Sept 30, 2005) raided the homes and offices of over 50 officials, including some senior functionaries and registered cases against them.
About 2,000 CBI personnel are engaged in the operations taking place in 90 cities across the country. "This is a special anti-corruption drive being conducted by the agency," a CBI spokesman said.
He said that the raids which targeted the homes and offices of some senior officials would be carried on till late this evening.
In Patna, the CBI raided the premises of the Bihar state convener of the Council for Advancement of People's Action and Rural Technology, some NGOs and an official of the cantonment board.
SP, CBI (Patna), R Shivaji told PTI that the premier investigative agency had registered four cases in connection with the 'swindling' of public money by various non- government organisations through CAPART.
The CBI also conducted raids at places in Deogarh, Godda and Dumka in Jharkhand. According to initial reports, the sleuths raided the residence of a BSNL engineer, Inder Dev Yadav, at Nunajore village in Godda district.
"We have registered about 35 cases so far," the spokesman said.
Such anti-corruption drives have been carried out three times earlier this year, he said, adding, major country-wide raids took place in February, April and June.
