A Bihar mathematician has been invited by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, to lecture students on his Super 30 school that sends children from poor families to top engineering colleges.
Anand Kumar will give his presentation sometime next month.
The B-school was reportedly impressed with Super 30 - a group of 30 students, mainly from poor and rural backgrounds who are given free coaching, food, accommodation and other facilities to help them crack the highly competitive Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination.
Earlier two other people from the state - Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar - were invited by IIM to give lectures. Lalu Prasad delivered a lecture last month.
This year, 28 of the 30 students - nearly half of them from the Other Backward Classes and three from Scheduled Castes category - made it to IIT JEE, thanks to Anand Kumar's dedication.
Last year, 26 were selected while 22 made it in 2004. In 2003, when Super 30 was born, 18 cracked the test.
Super 30 is supported with the income generated from the Ramanujam School of Mathematics, run by Anand Kumar. The Ramanujam institution is for students from affluent families who pay to fulfill their dreams, unlike Super 30 that is for poor students.
