Quantifying Financial News Interest
All news sites begin with a list of headlines. This selection,
its order and the content of the news are all based on
highly subjective human estimates. To get a truly
objective overview of what's important or not
on the Internet, a new kind of news interface has
been developed
(applied here to
financial news) that does not focus on the subjects
of Internet news but on their objects (which company is
concerned).
The key is that after sorting the companies by the
number of news mentioning them within a given period
of time, you can quantify the general interest toward it.
After reading the news on the most mentioned companies
you quickly find the most interesting subjects.
This process of picking news is not only less biased,
it is also much faster.
