The new train to run between Delhi and Bihar
Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Friday flagged off a new train connecting Delhi with Bihar making travel between the two States more convenient. He also renamed Naya Azadpur railway station here as Adarsh Nagar Delhi station.
As proposed in his Railway Budget, Mr. Prasad flagged off the Poorabia Express to run between Adarsh Nagar Delhi and Saharsa in Bihar. The weekly train will begin its regular operations on January 6 from Saharsa and on January 7 from Delhi.
The train will run every Saturday from Saharsa and every Sunday from Delhi. From Saharsa the train will depart at 10-35 a.m. to reach Delhi the next day at 1 p.m., while from Delhi it will leave at 3-35 p.m. on Sunday to reach Saharsa on Monday at 6-50 p.m. Comprising one AC-III coach, eight sleeper and four II Class coaches besides two luggage vans, the train will run via Delhi Junction, Moradabad, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, Gonda, Basti, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Bhatni, Siwan, Chhapra, Sonpur, Hazipur, Pathori Shahpur, Barauni, Begusarai, Khagaria and Mansi.
"Passenger traffic between Delhi and major towns in Bihar has increased manifolds over the years. Besides running special trains in the festival season and during summers, we have also increased the number of trains running to Bihar for the convenience of railway passengers," said a Northern Railway spokesperson, adding that the maiden run of the Poorabiya Express saw 90 per cent occupancy.
