PATNA: Patna doctors are up in arms against the sting operation carried out by a news channel. The sting caught five gynaecologists agreeing to abort a female foetus.
At a press conference organised here on Friday by Bihar branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Bihar Obstetric and Gynaecological Society, doctors alleged that the sting operation was a deliberate attempt to victimise innocent doctors.
Former state IMA president Dr Manju Geeta Mishra, who also features in the sting, told reporters, "The TV channel had a malafide intention. In fact, the person who came to me and showed me ultrasound reports said that the patient had already consumed abortion pills."
Mishra said, "These pills cause congenital abnormalities in the foetus which then has to be aborted. The news channel used only selective shots in the story. It did not show the entire conversation."
Dr Rita Dayal, who also features in the sting, also alleged that the channel did not air the true picture. She said, "I told the patient's attendant that I can advise an abortion only after I examine the patient. The channel did not show this part."...
