Politicians queue up for Ramdev's yoga meet

PATNA: Bihar politicians are virtually jostling against one another to benefit from Baba Ramdev and his biddings. The yoga guru is in town to conduct a "yoga vigyan shivir" here.

State RJD chief Abdul Bari Siddiqui only recently pooh-poohed the yoga guru's claims about yoga's importance, but that did not stop many of his fellow MLAs -- Shakuni Choudhary, Ram Das Rai and several others -- from attending the two-hour session addressed by the yoga icon.

Nor did Brinda Karat's barbs against Ramdev prevent CPM MLC Basudev Prasad from swinging his hands as part of an exercise as demonstrated by the yoga guru at the session.

It was a jampacked house at the annexe building of the state legislative council. Ministers, including science and technology minister Anil Kumar, and some senior MLAs had to return disappointed as there was no space for even a mouse to enter the hall in which the session was being held.

The yoga guru was enthused. "Don't bother if your hands touch the arms of your political opponents. In yoga, the ruling party and the opposition are equal," he told them while conducting the session.

"I have been following Swami Ramdev's yoga aasans through TV. But this is a new experience," said RJD chief whip Ram Chandra Purbey.

Even dons-turned-politicians are making a beeline to have an audience with him. RJD MLA Surendra Yadav and JD(U) MLA Munna Shukla could be seen following Baba Ramdev's biddings at Tuesday's session.

LJP MP Surajbhan Singh chose to call on him at the official residence of urban development minister Ashwani Choubey where he has put up. "Yoga makes you more confident and fearless," said Munna Shukla.
