Rlys-PNB deal to install ATM counters at stations

PATNA: The Railways have finalised an agreement with Punjab National Bank (PNB) to install two ATM counters at Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal (RNT) respectively to cater to the needs of passengers particularly those visiting from outside states.

Giving this information Danapur DRM K B L Mittal said while the ATM counter would become functional in 10 days time at Rajendra Nagar Terminal, the ATM counter at Patna Junction would start functioning by the second week of May.

"The facility is likely to benefit businessmen in particular," he said. To keep a close watch on the activities of the touts as well as functioning of the Patna computerised reservation office, the railways recently installed a close circuit TV.

This system has so far proved helpful in maintaining full transparency in the reservation office working, the DRM said.

He maintained that the railways had decided to outsource sale of railway tickets at Neora and Phulwarisharif stations under the pilot project of the division.

The DRM said the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) has become the only division of Indian Railways in which all A, B and D class stations have been provided with unreserved ticketing system (UTS ) facilities.

Under the system, passengers can buy their unreserved tickets at least three days in advance to travel to any part of the country, he said adding that the Railway Board had declared this division as UTS division of Indian Railway this year.

The two self platform ticket vending machines, which were installed at Patna Junction, have evoked good response from passengers. The railways intend to install such machines at other major stations of the division too.

Besides, railways which have already put up coach indication boards under its 'touch and feel passenger amenities scheme' at Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal are likely to provide this facility at least at a dozen more stations of the division, the DRM said.

The railways have provided special arrangements for the physically challenged people at each class A station of the division to procure tickets easily besides approving of the plan to convert Danapur, Nalanda and Nawada as model stations of the division.
Keeping in view high temperature, the railways have put on alert all those staff related to safety measures especially at most vulnerable places in the division, the DRM said.
