Teachers 'outsourcing' their jobs
PATNA: Ever heard of teachers hiring out classes? If not, take a round of different colleges in Bihar and one will surely come across scores of such teachers who engage outsiders to teach their students, at a price.
The practice of "sub-letting" teaching jobs has been going on in many colleges of Magadh and Veer Kuar Singh universities for the past several years. As most teachers posted in muffasil or suburban colleges do not want to live in underdeveloped areas, they opt for local unemployed people to engage the classes allotted to them while they (teachers) live in Patna or some other cities. They spend a part of their salary on payment of honorarium to the hired teachers and, in some cases, to the college authorities as well. In some colleges, teachers need not hire outsiders for the purpose. They would simply pay anything ranging between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 per month to the principals concerned and get their salaries credited to their bank accounts regularly.
Thus, it is not surprising that several teachers working in colleges at Kaler, Bikram or Ara live with their families in Patna and are involved in side business, other than teaching. Some of these teachers are also associated with various medical and engineering coaching institutes. A college teacher posted at Bikramganj in Rohtas district, speaking on condition of anonymity, told TOI that he resided in Patna as there were no good schools at Bikramganj to educate his children. For residing in the state capital without the hassles of engaging classes, all he has to do is pay a monthly amount of Rs 2,000 to the college principal.
