Samastipur killings: DRM transferred

SAMASTIPUR: Railway minister Lalu Prasad on Sunday announced the transfer of Samastipur DRM V K Bahmani. Sources said Bahmani was suddenly transferred because local RJD leaders complained to Lalu that the Samastipur DM and the DRM are "involved" in the killing of RJD leaders Akhilesh Rai and Ramudesh Rai.

Lalu reportedly told RJD workers that he could not transfer the DM because only the state government can do it. But he assured them that he would talk to CM Nitish Kumar in this connection.

Earlier, addressing a large gathering near the residence of slain RJD leader Akhilesh Rai at Magardahi locality here on Sunday, railway minister Lalu Prasad criticised the Nitish government for its failure to deliver the goods.

He said enemies of the poor are running the government. He demanded that the killers of the RJD leaders must be arrested immediately. If the district administration fails to arrest the named accused within a week, RJD would launch a sustained agitational programmes.

The RJD has taken seriously the RJD leaders' killing and would raise the matter in Parliament, he added. A host of RJD leaders, including Jai Prakash Yadav, Rajniti Prasad, Shyam Razak, Ram Lakhan Mahto, Ramchandra Singh Nishad, Gajendra Prasad Singh, Ashok Verma and Sunil Kumar Pushpam expressed their condolence on the occasion.

Later, Lalu met the family members of slain RJD leaders. Meanwhile, life in the district town returned to normal on Sunday. The town witnessed bandh for three consecutive days after the killing of two RJD leaders in the district on Thursday.
