PATNA: The Council for Protection of Public Rights and Welfare on Monday filed a PIL in the Patna High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the misuse of money meant for cleaning the river Ganga which has, in recent years, meandered away from the state capital.
The PIL also sought desiltation of the Ganga near Patna. The PIL highlighted the contamination of the sacred river due to release of untreated sewage.
Stating that all this has polluted the river to dangerous proportion, the petitioner submitted that due to the the high level of pollution, it had become unsafe for people to use water from the Ganga river for day to day activities.
Talking to TOI the petitioner's counsel, Brajesh Kumar, said the Supreme Court had in a verdict maintained that "natural resources are the assets of the entire nation.
It is obligation on all concerned, including the Union and the state governments, to conserve and not waste resources.
