The state government is seriously considering outsourcing the cleaning up of Patna to a renowned Delhi-based firm that has done similar works elsewhere in the country including Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh, Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said in Patna on Sunday.
A high-level meeting between the state representatives, including the minister, state engineers and Delhi's Cauvery Infrastructure is slated for Monday during which the company would make its case to clean up the city in a fast, effective manner, Choubey said.
"The situation is simply pathetic after three days of torrential rain. If things could be this bad at this time of the year, imagine what's going to happen in next few weeks when the monsoon shows its real form," he said.
Choubey said following the presentation, a specially-formed committee would evaluate the proposal before giving a go-ahead signal to the company. "It will take more than one year to prepare the blue-print of the plan itself but we cannot wait that long and leave the people of Patna in a lurch," the minister said adding a short-term solution is being worked out to rid Bihar from its current morass caused by clogged and antiquated drainage system.
