In a major relief to those aspiring for government jobs in Bihar, the state government today raised the upper age limit by two years for all categories.
Briefing newsmen after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Cabinet Secretary Ashok Kumar Chauhan said men of general category could now appear in tests for government jobs till they attained the age of 37.
Similarly, women of general category as well as those belonging to backward and extremely backward castes could now fill the forms for government jobs till the age of 40.
The decision to raise the upper age limit is a great leap towards women empowerment as well as giving relief to job aspirants. The government had earlier provided 50 per cent reservation to women in panchayats and local bodies, Chouhan said.
The upper age limit of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category candidates has been raised from the present 40 years to 42 years, he said.
The government also decided to compensate farmers whose onion and wheat crops were damaged due to inclement weather. The quantum of relief has been raised from the present Rs 1,000 per hectares to Rs 3,000 per hectares.
