New Patna Master Plan to be Revealed on July 7

The much-awaited master-plan of the state capital will be made public on July 7, state Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said in Patna on Wednesday adding for the next two months, the government will seek opinion from the public before giving it a final nod.

The plan of greater Patna under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urbanization Scheme comes with a price tag of whopping Rs. 500 crore and includes plan for an overall beautification of the capital with emphasis on tourism, Choubey said.

"We are going to establish a system in which the people of Patna will have as much input in the redesigning of the city as much as the concerned experts and bureaucrats," the minister said adding there will be a complete ban on posters and graffiti on public walls, particularly dirty movie posters that deface the entire city giving it a look of a giant ghetto.

"People of Patna can imagine how serious the Nitish government is about improving the image of Patna and the lifestyles of its citizens by the sheer cost of the plan," Choubey said.

The Urban Minister also ridiculed the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders for objecting to the government's urbanization plan. "For fifteen years, the RJD government allowed illegal contractors to construct building in complete violation of city laws and by-laws and now that we are trying to straighten up their mess, they are shedding crocodile tears about the landowners and farmers being dislocated," he said.
