Ranchi * The dream project of former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi may finally take shape, though the state government is fighting shy of calling it the Greater Ranchi plan. Finance Minister Raghubar Das has asked the district administration of Ranchi to provide 200 acres of land near Birsa Agriculture University (BAU) located close to Kanke Road for development.
The new township will be developed with an investment of Rs20bn though the plan is in its initial stages.
Ranchi became the capital after Jharkhand was created out of Bihar in 2000.
Not a planned town, it is known for its chaotic traffic. It also lacks proper residential areas besides suffering from water crisis.
"The new city has been planned to end the chaos and provide proper accommodation to people," said the Finance Minister. But he denied that his township concept was similar to Marandi's. "My new township concept is different from the Greater Ranchi concept," he said. Marandi had mooted Greater Ranchi to shift the capital from existing Ranchi.
