"There was one boy who tried to snatch the chain, my father in law got hold of him. We asked him not to go after the criminals and then the robbers shot him. Then the train stopped near Chiraiya Tand flyover. We kept screaming to call the doctors but none helped us," said Singh's daughter-in-law.
The Patna police have arrested seven people believed to be involved in the killing and have also recovered country made pistols, cartridges and mobile phones from their custody.
"Apart from this crime, after interrogating the criminals, we came to know of other criminal activities," said Abhyanand, Additional Director General, Bihar Police.
"My job was to stop the train near the Rajendra Nagar flyover. All of a sudden, I saw all my friends running. When I came back home, I got to know of the murder," said Rinku, an assailant.
This incident may start another debate on whether security on trains is the responsibility of the state administration or the railways. But this brutal murder in broad daylight is shocking proof of complete lawlessness in Bihar.
