Expressing great concerns over rising crime in trains passing through Bihar, the Railway Police IG A. S. Nimbran, on Sunday, summoned a high-level meeting of senior railway and police officials to formulate strategies to check such incidents that is shaking the very confidence of traveling passengers.
After nearly three hours of meeting, Nimbran presented his outline to improve security on the trains.
The government is preparing to tighten the security on running trains by deploying one company of Bihar Military Police on each train. They will be assisted by Railway Protection Force (RPF) and a section force comprising a police officer and four security guards, Nimbran said.
Security forces will also monitor activities on railway platforms and will have power to conduct raids in train bogies, he said.
"Earlier during the Panchayat elections, we were justifying that the crime on railways have increased due to the fact that all the security forces were being used for electoral reasons. Now that elections are over in the state, the crime in railways seem to have gone up. This indicates the current railway security force is not doing its job," the IG said.
Nimbran said spot inspection on trains by railway police station in-charge, DSP, and SP would be increased to keep the security guards on their toes. "Those who are found to be failing to perform their duties in the manner that is expected of them will be dealt with immediately and severely," Nimbran said.
