Nitish tells babus to call commoners aap

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday asked the bureaucrats to be polite while addressing commoners and work to weed out corruption and bring complete transparency in poor-oriented work.

Talking to reporters after reviewing the law and order situation and development at a high-level meeting with top state officials, district magistrates and superintendents of police, Kumar said officials had been asked to be polite while dealing with the common man.

"Give them respect. Instead of calling them tum, you call them aap with full respect," he said.

Chief Minister said effective steps would be taken to strengthen the information and intelligence gathering.

The District Magistrates and police superintendents should work in close coordination and, if required, they should meet each other at their official houses on alternate days to review the law and order situation in their respective districts.

Kumar asked the officials to weed out corruption in public distribution system (PDS) and to ensure complete transparency in all the poor-oriented schemes, including Annpurna Yojana an Antyodaya Yojana.

Transparency was a must in allotment of houses under Indira Awas Yojana and selection of beneficiaries of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, he said.

Chief Secretary G S Kang, Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha, IG (headquarters) Anil Sinha, besides secretaries of all the departments, Zonal IGs, range DIGs, District Magistrates and Police Superintendents participated in the meeting.
