Adding one more item to their already long, ambitious lists of announcements, the Nitish government, on Saturday revealed its plan to build Patna's first official suburb in the 270 acres of land available in Gardanibagh under the Gardanibagh Area Development Plan.
Talking to reporters in Patna, Deputy Sushil Kumar Modi said the ultra-modern suburb of Patna would provide facilities available in all large satellite cities like Noida and Gurgaon that only would generate hundreds of new employment opportunities but will also put a check on the migration of brain from Bihar to other big cities.
"The plan is still in conception state and soon a feasibility report would be prepared and presented to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his perusal," Modi said soon after participating in a high-level meeting also attended by Building Construction Minister Monazir Hasan, Building Construction Secretary, Arun K. Singh, and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Arun Kumar Sinha, among others.
"The current setup of Gardanibagh spread over nearly 270 acres is old and dilapidated and in the need of immediate attention. This area is also conveniently located from the airport and railway station and would be the ideal site for Patna's first suburb," the Building Construction Minister said.
The plan includes facilities for modern hotels, malls, call centers, and multiplex theaters, the deputy Chief Minister said.
Most of the current residents in Gardanibagh are government officials living in run-down government quarters. "The government will make arrangements to relocate these people, Modi said.
