An information commissioner would be appointed soon for making the Right To Information (RTI) Act operational in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said.
The rules and procedure for appointment of the information commissioner has been framed. A three-member committee, including the leader of the opposition, for the appointment of the information commissioner will be constituted soon, he told reporters emerging from `Janata ke Darbar me Mukhya Mantri` programme at his 1, Anne Marg residence.
Kumar, who has been confronted with a large number of complaints from the general public relating to the police department, admitted that there was a need for specialised training for the force to make it more sensitive to the peoples` problem.
"I have directed state police chief A R Sinha to send our policemen for orientation course in training centres of the central para-military forces and those of other states," he said.
Kumar claimed that the law and order situation in the state was improving fast and hailed the functioning of state auxiliary police personnel, whose recruitment, he said, has won accolodes from Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
On Congress` state-wide agitation today against the alleged all-round failure of his government, Kumar said in a lighter vein "Is the protest visible anywhere?"
