Patna, Aug 12: AIDS has spread roots in Bihar with as many as 100 people dying from the dreaded disease, 1,100 others suffering from it and 8,211 more having been identified as HIV-Positive.
Giving these figures in the state assembly, Health Minister Chandra Mohan Rai said that eight districts have been identified as `high risk zone`. They are: west Champaran, east Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Kisanganj, Purnea, Khagaria and Muzaffarpur.
The Minister, however, did not mention since when the figures have been maintained.
The Minister said that considering the gravity of the situation, the state government had launched a comprehensive awareness drive, particularly in the rural areas. Besides, 100 new test centres would be opened in the villages in addition to 64 test centres being run by the aids control committee all over the state.
