The ministry of External Affairs yesterday announced that it would interoduce online registration of passport applications at the RPO, Delhi, on a trial basis from August 9.
Under the new system, a passport applicant with access to the internet facility can go to the website https://passport.gov.in, slect online registration and fill in the form.
Adults as well as miner applicant can register online for fresh passport, reissue of passport (where the validity of the passport held has expired or is about to expire) and new passport booklets in lieu of lost or damaged passports.
The application form is simple, applicants-friendly and easy to fill in, an MEA spokesman said. When in doubt, the application can refer to the revised and updated instructions given on the website of the Delhi Passport Office.
On completion registration, the applicant will get a printout of the registered application showing the date and time to the visit the RPO, Delhi for submitting the application along with the requisite documents.
Online registration will not be required to take any tokens. They can straight-way go to counter No. 14, Hall No.1, in the passport office and submit their forms on the date and time indicated in the printout.
The spokesman clarified that in addition to this new facility of on-line registration the existing system of submitting application at the passport office, district passport cells (DPCs) and speed post centers would continue for the convenience of passport applicants in Delhi.
The online registration is initially being interodused or a trial basis and will be fine tuned in the coming days.
