A special court in Siwan hearing the cases against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP from Siwan Mohammed Shahabuddin, on Friday, turned down his verbal appeal to defer the trial in view of his transfer to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
During his appearance in the special court, Shahabuddin asked first class judicial magistrate V. V. Gupta to delay his trial since he was being shifted to the AIIMS for receiving treatment for his spinal problem, reports said.
The appeal, however, was turned down by the presiding magistrate on the ground that the Patna High Court had directed the trial to be continued through video conferencing even when the RJD MP is shifted to New Delhi.
In another development, Shahabuddin's travel to New Delhi was postponed by a day for reasons known only to top state officials. While nearly a dozen Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) were dispatched to Delhi on Friday, the MP himself is now expected to leave for the Capital on Saturday, senior police officials said.
