At the 19th annual regional meet of the ICSE and ISC school principals of Bihar and Jharkhand, state Governor R. S. Gavai, on Saturday in Patna, said in light of the changing economic and global situation there was an immediate need to bring changes in the existing school text books with emphasis on computer education without which the children of today could not be expected to compete with children of other nations.
"Computer education should be made mandatory in all schools," the Governor said adding education was the very building block of any developed society and India, in order to remain competitive in the global economy, must remain a step ahead of other countries.
The event was organized by the Rose Bud School and the topic was the need of initiative in state schools in the area of environment and computers.
"There should also be emphasis on education in the field of genetic engineering and bio-technology. This is particularly important for a country like India that heavily depends on agriculture," Gavai said.
Patna University Vice Chancellor Dr. Ehteshamuddin and A. N. College environment department's Head Dr. B. Singh enunciated the need for environmental awareness among the students urging them to establish perfect harmony between science and nature.
