The junior doctors of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) have gone on a lightning strike since midnight to protest the kidnapping of a senior doctor from Bihar's Bhojpur district on Sunday evening.
The junior doctors are boycotting not only the out patients department but also emergency services.
"We have gone on a lightning strike to protest the abduction of Prof Radhika Raman. Our strike is also meant to put pressure on the government and the police to secure his early release," DMCH Junior Doctors Association President Nikhil Kumar said.
The senior doctors of the premier medical institute in the north Bihar town where patients from far flung areas, including neighbouring Nepal come for treatment, are, however, performing their duties.
No new patients are, however, being admitted.
Dr RK Prasad of Orthopaedics department said senior doctors will meet later in the day to decide their future course of action.
Raman was abducted by unidentified gunmen, who first trailed his car in a jeep and then intercepted it near Kaura village under Udwant Nagar police station of Bhojpur district on Sunday evening. The doctor was bundled into the jeep and taken to a still unknown destination.
Mamta Singh, wife of the doctor, who was let off after being assaulted, drove to the office of the Bhojpur Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar and informed him about the kidnapping.
