The chief of the Common School System Commission and former Foreign Secretary Muchkund Dubey, at a meeting with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his residence in Patna on Wednesday, said steps would be taken to impose some control over private schools to make the field level for children from all walks of life.
"Today there is a strong trend for privatization of education in India. This is creating a huge gap between the children of different economic backgrounds," Dubey said.
The three-member Commission, the first of its kind in the country, was formed last month with the intention to end discrimination at school-level and provide fair and quality education to school students in Bihar.
The other two members of the Commission are state Human Resources Secretary Madan Mohan Jha and prominent academician Professor Anil Sadagopal.
The Commission is expected to submit its report in nine months.
Talking to reporters following the meeting, Dubey said the recommendations made by the Commission would be implemented in multiple phases starting with children in the range of age 6 to 14.
