American Consulate officials from Kolkata, on the first day of their three-day road show in Patna on Saturday, announced their decision to open an American library in Patna that would cater to the needs of students who desire to go to America for higher studies.
The library will be built at a convenient location and no help from the state government would be taken, Consul General Henry Jardine said at a press conference adding he had come to Patna once in 1989 but this time he sensed a fresh wind of development blowing in the state capital.
Director of the American Center Douglas G. Kelly said the library would go a long way in imparting education in various fields.
The road show is co-sponsored by the Bihar Industries Association (BIA).
The library would provide guidance and counseling to students who wish to go to United States for undergraduate degrees. It would also apprise the aspirants of various steps involved in obtaining an American visa, Kelly said.
Many would recall that Patna did once have an American Library at the southern end of the Gandhi Maidan that was shut down in the mid '70s.
Indicating a continuing decline in the academic atmosphere that started in the late '70s in Bihar, Patna also lost the British Council Library on the Bank Road after it closed its door for good on July 31, 2001.
