Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a press conference in Patna on Monday, appealed to the road contractors to resume work on state highways in Bihar without any fear or apprehension of extortionists despite the killings of two engineers in Madhepura last Thursday.
"We have waged a relentless war against the criminals and we will make sure not only the engineers but all other residents of Bihar are safe. One cannot, however, wait for the government to eradicate crime first before any developmental work takes place in the state.," Kumar said.
The Chief Minister said he had directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to reopen all unsolved abduction cases in Bihar to take a fresh look at them from the angle of human body part smuggling as suggested by the recent recovery of human remains from Nithari.
"All abductions could not be motivated by ransom money. In many cases, the abductors did not even make ransom demands. These facts cannot be ignored and the DGP has been instructed to reopen many of these cases, the Chief Minister said.
