The Nitish government has finally awaken to the needs of closed circuit monitoring system at Bihar's prisons as it announced its decision to install CCTV in all areas of the jails to keep round-the-clock vigil on prisoners, particularly the political inmates who are known to use their clout to get away with anything and everything.
The cameras, sometimes hidden from the eyes of the prisoners, will be attached with three monitoring centers including one in the jailor's office, another at the District Magistrate's office and the third one at the control room at the Prison IG's office still under construction, officials said.
The plan has already started to take place as jail authorities installed a CCTV at Nawada Jail cell where notorious criminal Ashok Mahto has been placed after being brought from Nawada Jail to be produced before a court for his involvement in several murder and other criminal cases.
Officials in Patna said Beltron has been entrusted to install CCTV at Patna's Beur Jail. Work in other jails will follow soon after, authorities said.
