Bihar Oppn to File Graft Case in Land Allotment to Prakash Jha
The Opposition in Bihar mainly comprising RJD, Congress and Samata Party has decided to file a case against ministers and officials concerned under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the allotment of land to filmmaker Prakash Jha. The Patna High Court has already quashed the allotment order.
"We have sought the files related to the land allotment to Jha from the departments concerned under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Once we get hold of them we will identify the ministers and officers who violated rules for allotting land to Jha and then lodge a case against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act", said Congress leader Premchand Mishra at a joint press conference. The full text of the High Court's judgment comes as a damning indictment of the state government. While quashing the allotment of land at six places, including Patna, for building multiplexes, the court has passed severe strictures in its order. Click on "Full Story" for more... Buoyed by the judgment, the three parties have decided to get it printed in a booklet form in Hindi and distribute it across the state. "We will name the booklet Sushashan ka Pol Khol (good governance exposed)," said RJD leader Shyam Rajak.
Leaders of these parties also said they would agitate over the issue and demand the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on moral grounds since he had gone on record saying that there were no discrepancies in the land allotment. The judgment comes down severely on the AdvocateGeneral (A-G) PK Shahi for making false submissions in the matter. The A-G had submitted in the court that there was no question of competitive bidding for land since there was more land than seekers. "The submission made by the A-G also appears to be incorrect in case of Patna. There were 18 applications for land in the Patliputra Industrial Area. Nine applicants did not turn up, six were turned down on the ground that land was not available. It is therefore incorrect to say that there was more land than seekers," the judgment says.
