Enhanced Dearness Allowance(DA) For Patna University (PU) Teachers, Staff

Patna University (PU) teachers and non-teaching staff will get an additional slab of 6 per cent enhanced dearness allowance with effect from January this year. A notification to this effect was issued by PU on Saturday.

Welcoming the notification, Patna University Teachers' Association president Upendra Kishore Sinha said steps should also be initiated for disbursement of arrears of revised UGC pay-scales to the teachers.

Repair of quarters: After getting all its hostels repaired and renovated, PU has taken up the repair work of its residential quarters. PU vice-chancellor has reportedly directed the engineering section to start the repair work from the Saidpur residential complex.

Incidentally, almost all the quarters occupied by university teachers at Saidpur complex and Rani Ghat and on PU campus are in dilapidated condition and need immediate repair. Most of these residential quarters have become inhabitable as they have not been repaired for the last several decades.

Campus placement: Under the current spree of campus placement in PU, the ICICI Bank visited B N College on Saturday and started the process of selection of candidates for the posts of officers. More than 1,200 students appeared at the written test conducted by the bank. The shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. Another test for recruitment of bank officers is likely to be held in the college next week, said college placement officer M N Sinha.

R-Day parade: PU has selected nine students from different departments for participating in the Republic Day parade-2008 in New Delhi. The selected students happen to be toppers of their respective subjects and their names have been forwarded to the Union HRD ministry, said PU dean of students welfare Ezaj Ali Arshad.

Syndicate meeting: A special meeting of the PU syndicate has been convened on Sunday to approve the pending cases of promotion of teachers from lecturers to senior lecturers. These promotion cases were to be taken up in the last meeting of the syndicate, but decisions were deferred. Meanwhile, PU teachers are canvassing support for election to the senate scheduled for October 9. The annual meeting of the PU senate is likely to be held sometime in November.

Dharna ends: A two-day dharna launched by the members of the PU employees association in support of their demands concluded on Saturday without any positive assurance from the authorities concerned. The employees will stage a massive demonstration before the PU office on Monday, said association general secretary Ran Vijay.
